CALL FOR POSTERS


12th Annual VEF Conference of Fellows and Scholars

Poster Competition on March 18, 3:00 to 4:00 pm


VEF would like to announce a call for posters from VEF Fellows and Scholars for the upcoming 12th VEF Conference of Fellows and Scholars.

Two poster sessions will be held:

  1. Display of Posters at the VIP Opening Reception
  2. Poster Competition based on a Fellow or Scholar’s Research

Abstracts: Submit a Poster Abstract of 400 words or less by February 15. The abstract will be proof read and formatted for inclusion in the conference booklet and for posting on the conference web site. You may opt out of having the abstract printed or posted.

Poster Dimensions:  The maximum poster size is 3 X 4 feet (36 X 48 inches).  Participants in the session are responsible for printing their own posters. Easels, poster boards, and push pins will be provided.

Session:  During both the display on March 16 and the actual competition on March 18, participants must be available to present their work and to answer questions about their poster.

Poster Divisions:  Posters will be divided into 5 divisions by discipline for judging and awarding of a prize for the best poster in each group:

  1. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering
  2. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, and Mathematics
  3. Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Public Health, Pharmacy
  4. Life & Environmental Sciences: Biology, Plant Science, Ecology, Environmental Engineering
  5. Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering

Evaluation Criteria:  First prize will be awarded in each of the 5 divisions based on:

  1. Scientific ability
  2. Successful communication of scientific concepts
  3. Skill in rendering visual components
  4. Creativity

Evaluation Committee:  The evaluation committee will be comprised of VEF U.S. Faculty Scholars and scientists and professors from the DC area.

Prizes: Winners in each of the 6 divisions will receive an official certificate. As a government agency, VEF cannot pay for prizes, but through fundraising or donation, prizes may be given. We will keep you updated if any prizes are donated.

All awards will be announced at the Final Dinner on March 18, 2016.

Submission : Submit your abstract at https://oms.vef.gov. The abstract submission deadline is February 14, 2016.
